Second to being in the presence of my nuclear family, there is no place I feel more alive, more comfortable, and more filled with joy than with the Lord Jesus on another continent, people deep in the work of His Great Commission. It’s as if nothing else matters; time stands still, and my whole heart is constantly poured out onto whatever expression of the Imago Dei I’m around. I want nothing else to occupy my time, nothing else to consume my thoughts, and nothing else to do than to demonstrate and proclaim the majesty of the love of Jesus to a world in desperate need of Him.

Those are my mountaintop moments.

They are the moments of nearness to Jesus I’d love to live in my daily life.

But that’s not what the Lord Jesus calls us to. Through one of my favorite devotionals from Oswald Chambers, I am reminded that we were created for the ordinary valleys of life. And as the devo states, “The true test of our spiritual life is in exhibiting the power to descend from the mountain.”

This is where this space comes into play.

Writing has always been a medium of safety. It has been a way to not merely clarify and articulate my thoughts or as a vehicle to encourage others, but a way to abide with Abba. Putting the proverbial pen to paper, or in this case, fingers to keyboard, I am able to record the experiences, lessons, and passion points acquired in the valleys of what I have been entrusted with from the Lord. Writing is for growth, transparency, and a collection of my own Joshua stones that I pray will edify the reader, all for the glory of God.

If I were ever to write an autobiography, it would be entitled Coram Deo.

Why, coram Deo?

That’s how I desire to live before God.

As R.C. Sproul succinctly defines it in this article, “To live coram Deo is to live one’s entire life in the presence of God, under the authority of God, to the glory of God. To live in the presence of God is to understand that whatever we are doing and wherever we are doing it, we are acting under the gaze of God.”

Nothing more, nothing less.

With my life, and as I write, this is my aim.

That’s what you can expect here: an uncurated collection of musings, papers central to the respective roles He’s given to me, devotional takeaways, and everything in between.

In true Morgan fashion, it might seem like I’m picking up in the middle of a thought or referring to people you may have never met. This will be conversational in nature as if someone is always listening (or reading). Please feel free to engage.

My deepest prayer is for each person who finds themselves on this literary porch of sorts to walk away with a deeper gaze of adoration toward the Lord, a greater burden for those far from Him, and a desire to live coram Deo in their own lives.
